The surge in SEO and bloggers desire to rank on search engine results (SERPs) is on the increase. If you want to grow your blog, you need depth knowledge on Search Engine Optimization.

Search engine optimization is a lead strategy for brand visibility and marketing. SEO takes time and effort, sometimes we get results and most times it’s like we didn’t do our best. But, we keep solving problem and testing the water.

In this article, I will explain some common SEO mistakes you make, and how to correct them in order to rank on SERPs.

  1. Quantity over Quality:

There is the urge to make your website filled up with content and no proper research. This results to creating content that is thin, irrelevant, or duplicate. If you focus on publishing content that are not user friendly, will affect your blog post ranking.

What to do? Focus on creating quality, valuable, relevant, unique content to your niche and audience. Update your blog post when necessary. That one well written content and probably not long words count will rank if specified to its audience.

  1. Wrong and Short Keywords:

Keyword research is the first step before creating any content for your blog. Not conducting proper keyword research to understand what terms your target audience is searching for is wrong for your blogging.

What to do? Use keyword research tools and do thorough keyword research using tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush, Askthepublic, etc. Choose keywords that are relevant to your website and have a good search volume but aren’t too competitive.

 Also, focus on long-tail keywords that are specific to your blog post. Long-tail keywords are less competitive and help in voice-searching optimization for your content.

  1. Poor On-Page Optimization:

A proper on-page optimization gets all search engine ranking. These on-page features include; meta- descriptions, title tags, keyphrase, header tags, and image alt text.

What to do? Optimize the page or seek help from digital marketers. Create high-quality content that is informative, engaging, and relevant to your target audience, use compelling meta-description that aligns with the title, keyphrase and proper header tags. All images use should have a proper webp format and alt text.

  1. Overlooking Local SEO:

If you are a growing business (small and mid), let your keyword be centered on your vicinity and your content solve problems around you. There are searches for local related problem and your blog should be specific to those.

What to do? Update/ optimize your Google business listing, make sure your NAP consistent across all online listing. Use local keywords in your website content and ask for customer reviews when necessary. This is important for growing businesses to appear on local search engine sites.

  1. Poor Technical SEO:

Google loves happy users, as it considers user experience as a ranking factor. If you have a slow loading websites, broken links, or mobile-friendliness issues, your blog post would have a tough time ranking. Also, activities like trying to game the search engine algorithms with techniques like keyword stuffing, link buying, or cloaking.

What to do?  Make sure your website is mobile-friendly and loads quickly. Regularly audit your website for technical issues using tools like Google Search Console, Google PageSpeed Insights to fix all SEO issues. Fix crawl errors, ensure proper redirects, and maintain a clean and functional website structure. Do well, to optimize and update previous blog post.

  1. Not Analyzing:

Any online activities deserve analysis to crosscheck performance. Constantly analyze your content and website functionality for user experience effectiveness. Always stay up to date to search engine algorithm.

What to do? Set up Google Analytics and other relevant tracking tools. Monitor key metrics like traffic, bounce rate, and conversion rates. Use insights to refine your SEO strategy.

These are the 6 common SEO mistakes among bloggers and if corrected immediately and strategically put a brand at the lead in search engine ranking. There are more and as the algorithm keeps changing, we learn to stay flexible to its present style.

Other SEO Mistakes to look into and work on include;    

  • Not building backlinks: Not having enough backlinks from other websites to your website.

What to do? Create high-quality content that is naturally linkable, and reach out to other websites in your niche to get them to link to your content.

  • No mobile optimization option: Google promotes mobile friendly content mostly. Besides, research shows that an average person uses their phone more than other digital devices.

What to do? Ensure your website is mobile friendly and accessible.

  • Not being consistent and overnight ranking: You are expecting to see results overnight. SEO takes time and effort like I earlier stated, so keep trying out every strategy and creating valuable content.
  • No social media Presence: You might have a social media presence but are you actively using it as a lead strategy to your website? Neglecting the impact of social media on SEO is poor for your brand.

What to do?  Share your content on social media platforms to increase visibility and drive traffic. Social signals can indirectly impact search engine rankings

By avoiding these common SEO mistakes, you can improve your website’s ranking in search results and get more organic traffic.

  • Slow loading process: It can be rough for a user being frustrated in checking out your site when it’s not loading or slow.

What to do? Optimize images, clear cache, and improve page speed with content delivery networks.

By avoiding these common SEO mistakes, you can enhance your website user experience, visibility, sales conversion and overall performance on search engines. Remember, to regularly update your SEO strategy to align with your industry as the algorithm changes.
